About this collection

History of medicine: The collection is launched with a selection of works taken primarily from the CRAI Rare Book and Manuscript Library, which can be categorized in two broad types. On the one hand are texts that review, interpret or simply relate medical knowledge from earlier eras, in particular the ideas of the two landmark figures in medicine prior to the modern age: Galen and Hippocrates.

On the other are original texts and later reproductions of the great works in the history of medicine. Alongside texts by Galen, Hippocrates and Avicenna are work by Aulus Cornelius Celsus and and the autobiographical writings of the former UB professor Santiago Ramón y Cajal.
